VEI provides resources for teachers to educate themselves and their students about population dynamics, carrying capacity, costs of growth, consumerism, commercialism, materialism, and sustainable communities. We offer in-service worshops, school programs and a lending library of video tapes. VEI has created Standards Based Units based on Population Reference Bureau and Population Connection's elementary, middle school and high school curricula. VEI has also prepared a user's guide to the Izaak Walton League's Community Sustainability curriculum. We also carry the Center on Commercialism's excellent "Living in a Material World" curriculum and the Education Development Center's high school pilot curriculum on population, consumption and our ecological footprint.
If you are looking for information specific to Vermont check out VEI's Fact Sheets. These six fact sheets cover issues such as sprawl, energy use, wildlife habitats, wetlands, transportation and the costs of growth in Vermont. Our survey gives insight into Vermonters' attitudes toward growth, sprawl and population.
If you are interested in learning what your impact on the
environment may be, take the "Carbon Quiz." By calculating how much you
travel and
consume you can get an idea of your carbon emissions.
