  • The Alan Guttmacher Institute (AGI) -The Institute focuses its research and education on domestic population programs and policies but it also is concerned with international population issues. AGI's special reports and journals are excellent.

  • Association of Vermont Recyclers -AVR promotes waste reduction, reuse, recycling, and buying recycled in Vermont. AVR provides information, assistance, and education to individuals, towns, solid-waste districts, schools, and businesses.

  • Carrying Capacity Network -CCN is a national, non-profit organization which focuses on initiatives that will achieve population stabilization, immigration reduction, economic sustainability, and resource conservation. It publishes a bimonthly Network Bulletin for members and periodic study results as part of the "Carrying Capacity Research Issues Series".

  • Climate Change Learning and Information Center -This organization offers training workshops and produces education materials on the topic of global climate change.

  • Center for a New American Dream -This organization works to get Americans talking about materialism and working to reduce their consumption. They have a Simple Living and Earth Saving Action Kitavailable for $10.

  • FAO (Food and Agriculture Organization of the U.N.) -Information on global agriculture, fisheries,forestry, and water.

  • Global Action Plan -GAP promotes and supports the development of environmentally sustainable lifestyles in communities around the U.S. GAP's Household EcoTeam Program empowers individuals to adopt resource-efficient lifestyle practices. Their Community Lifestyle Campaign brings the EcoTeam Program to municipalities. GAP has a Journey for the Planet curriculum for grades 4-6.

  • Izaak Walton League of American -The IWL began 75 years ago as a group of anglers who were concerned about natural resources of the U.S. It has evolved to address human population growth, resource consumption, and pollution abatement. The League has several booklets and a curriculum on sustainable communities.

  • National Audubon's Society's Population and Habitat Program -The Population and Habitat Campaign produces print and audiovisual materials, policy reports and a free bimonthly newsletter. The Population and Habitat Campaign has state coordinators in six states, a population policy associate in Washington, DC, and active population chapters in many states.

  • National Wildlife Federation, Population Program -Population staff at NWF work on advocacy as well as outreach to its five million members. Several fact sheets on population and environmental issues are available from NWF. They also have a Fast Action Network which is a telephone or e-mail communication tree for population issues.   • The New Road Map Foundation -The New Road Map Foundation is an all-volunteer nonprofit organization dedicated to improving people's quality of life through an examination of their relationship with money. They are best know for the book, Your Money or Your Life by Joe Dominquez and Vicki Robin.

  • www.popplanet.org - A new site by the Population Reference Bureau (PRB) and the National Council for Science and the Environment (NCSE) covering relationships between population, health and environmental issues.

  • Population Action International -Population Action International tracks and analyzes legislation and policy changes in the United States Congress. They have free fact sheets and booklets on "Why Population Matters".

  • Population Association of America -This is an association of demographers focused on matters related to population.

  • Population Connection -  Population Connection is a national population membership organization that educates, advocates and brings media attention to population and environment issues. It produces a number of fact sheets, a newsletter, and curricula for K-12.

  • Population Reference Bureau -The Population Reference Bureau is a private scientific and educational organization which gathers, interprets, and disseminates facts related to population. PRB produces reports and teaching materials on U.S. and international population issues, as well as materials on population and the environment. They have a Population-Environment Film Library with many audio-visual materials for rent.

  • Sierra Club, International Population Program -The Sierra Club, whose members have been working on population issues for over 20 years, has an International Population Program, a national newsletter, local committees and an advocacy program. They have a variety of resources on population and environment topics.

  • Vermont Forum on Sprawl -This multi-year project, started in January of 1998, is researching the causes and effects of sprawl and is developing, publicizing and implementing a set of actions that will effectively confront sprawl.
  • The Vermont Green Building Network is a non-profit organization dedicated toincreasing Vermont's participation in green building and to promoting theenvironmental, financial, community, and health benefits of green design,construction, and building operation practices. VGBN provides networking opportunities for green building professionals and a centralized clearinghousefor consumers.

  • World Resources Institute -WRI is a policy research institute that helps the private sector, governments and international organizations determine how to meet human needs and nurture development without undermining environmental integrity. It publishes a catalog of resources concerning natural resource use.

  • Worldwatch Institute -Worldwatch Institute is a policy research organization that analyzes global trends and progress towards a sustainable society. It produces the well known, annual State of the World report as well as the Worldwatch issue papers.
